It is Saturday. And Pasqualina Salandra finally wakes up from a six-day coma. At the hospital, his family tells him that his companion, Frédéric Cicéro, was buried the same morning. “Not having accompanied him to his funeral remains my greatest remorse, just like that of not having been at the side of our son Livio who was three years old at the time to go through this ordeal”, she describes to us. (Editor’s note. She has two other older children from a first union). It’s only recently that I feel like I can take care of him once more.”

Pasqualina is awake but in a bad state: fractured cervical vertebrae, open skull, fractured left foot, open fracture in the right tibia, affected lumbar…

After two months in hospital and five operations, the Maurageoise will spend the first four months of her recovery in bed with her sister before returning to her home last September. She has been in rehabilitation for a year and a half, a period spent for the most part in a wheelchair. “I start walking without crutches, limping. But I still don’t remember anything. I just remember our meeting at the hall and our departure with the gilles around five in the morning.

When a week ago the announcement of Paolo Falzone’s release from prison and his detention under an electronic bracelet fell, this nurse posted an angry message on Facebook. It is addressed directly to the driver of the BMW which, on March 20, 2022, fatally struck, at nearly 160 km / h, six revelers in Strépy and injured around forty people.

“Look what your murderous act has made of me. Miraculously, yes, I am alive. But look […] what you did to my children and my parents. You killed my man. You deprived my four-year-old son of his daddy and made his mommy miserable. All these sufferings […] that you made our loved ones endure. I was deprived of saying ‘goodbye’ to my man. […] I was deprived of my role as a mother for months. You took everything from me to satisfy your desire to show off […].” Added to this post are images of his battered body on a hospital bed and his scars…

“Now that he is out, he has the chance to rebuild his life, to see his friends, his family. He is certainly still considered in detention but, in my eyes, he is in relative freedom. And this period out of prison, under electric surveillance will be deducted from his final sentence. I am furious that the investigation is taking so long.”

The trial will certainly not take place before the end of 2024. And Pasqualina is not the only one to suffer from this release from prison. On September 9, a march will also be organized by the “Association du 20 mars 2022” to protest once morest this release from prison under an electronic bracelet.

Drama of Strépy: “The fact that Paolo Falzone is in prison does not alleviate my pain but imagining him under an electronic bracelet increases it”

Paolo Falzone is charged with five manslaughters and one voluntary. For this second count, it is a victim on which the driver drove following it landed on its hood.

While waiting for the verdict, Pasqualina will give everything for her four-year-old boy. “He still talks regarding his dad every day,” she tells us. “He often wants to see photos and videos of Fred. He wonders if his daddy is okay in heaven.”
