Edmonton Elks Break Losing Streak With Victory over Hamilton Tiger-Cats: Game Recap and Highlights

2023-08-18 03:47:00

The Edmonton Elks beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 24-10 on Thursday to earn their first win in 10 games this season and end a 13-game losing streak dating back to last season.

The game was hosted in Hamilton, so the Elks’ sad 22-game losing streak (1-9), a North American professional sports record, still stands. They will have the opportunity to put an end to it next week when they host the Ottawa Redblacks.

The game was interrupted for nearly two hours at halftime due to thunderstorms. The score was already 21-9 in favor of Edmonton at this point.

Elks quarterback Tre Ford completed 13 of 18 attempts for 174 yards, including two touchdown passes to Steven Dunbar Jr, who totaled 93 yards on four receptions.

Ford added 60 rushing yards on five carries.

In the loss, Taylor Powell had 217 passing yards replacing Bo Levi Mitchell with a right leg injury.

James Butler had 115 rushing yards and Tim White 101 receiving yards.

The Tiger-Cats (3-6) suffer a second straight loss following losing to the Montreal Alouettes two weeks ago.

With their record of 5-3, the Alouettes’ second place in the standings in the East looks more and more comfortable as the Tiger-Cats and the Rouge et Noir follow them with identical records of 3-6. Montreal will visit Ottawa on Saturday (game presented at 7 p.m. on RDS).
