Pitta foods are just right for you if you have too much Pitta. In summer, these Pitta foods are right for everyone, because they cool you from the inside.

But there are also foods that increase Pitta and make you sweat even more. Therefore you will find two lists here:

1. Pitta Foods – Decreasing and cooling

2. Pitta foods – elevating and heating

If you’re a Pitta type, this list of reducing foods will be helpful year-round. For all other Dosha types, this Pitta diet is recommended during Pitta time. The Pitta months are late June, July, August, September and can last up to October. More regarding the doshas in the seasons.

Are you a Pitta type? If you don’t know, then take the big dosha test here. In 10 minutes you will know more regarding yourself.

Pitta is really powerful

Pitta means fire! The essence of Pitta is fire!

If you can understand that, maybe even feel it physically, then you have fully understood Pitta.

Pitta is the principle of metabolism. Pitta digests and ensures the absorption of nutrients in the intestine. Pitta characters are born with strong digestion. They tolerate any food, often have more than one bowel movement a day and can eat a lot.

But what they can’t do is go without a meal. Even the postponement of an hour from the usual time makes the Pitta type an irritable lion. Warning: Rumpelstielzchen is imminent!
Ayurveda says the best recipe for Pitta types is moderation, moderation, moderation! Pitta people are intense people. Everything they do, they do with passion and dedication. If they overdo it and Pitta is out of balance, they tend to become fighting spirit, jealousy, anger and pedantry.
If everything is in order, then they are wonderfully loving people who outshine everything with their joyful nature.

If Pitta gets too much, only cooling can help

Pitta people usually have a really good metabolism, they digest well. If they’re hungry, they’re really hungry! They are very thirsty, sexually active and like to exercise. But if everything becomes too much, the inner fire and the outer heat, then you can provide inner cooling with the right Pitta foods. It helps me if I know what I should avoid as a Pitta type. These are all heating foods and spices. I leave out all bulbous vegetables, such as leeks, garlic and of course the onions themselves, in the summer. I also avoid hot radishes and hot spices. I might bathe in cooling coconut milk for that! Coconut milk cools the fiery Pitta.

July to October is Pitta time

Pitta foods are of course important for all Pitta types. But also for all other Dosha types during Pitta time. Pitta is made of fire, so logically summer, with its hot, dry days, is Pitta time.
In general, Ayurveda recommends the cooling Pitta foods, especially in the Pitta period. But if Pitta is the predominant dosha for you anyway, you can use this list “Pitta foods – reducing and cooling” all year round.

Cooling foods are not cold!

Unfortunately, there is still a bad misconception that ice-cold drinks are cooling. The mouth and stomach may feel cool at first, but the body now has to heat up tremendously to bring the freezing cold to body temperature. Our digestive system only works optimally when everything in your body is at 37°C. Pitta foods, which have a cooling effect, never come out of the fridge. They should be at least room temperature or body temperature. An ice-cold drink with food can extinguish Agni, your digestive fire. As a result, your meal will not be metabolized sufficiently and you will produce a lot of ama. More on how ice cold makes you fat and on Agni, the digestive fire.

The only exception for ice cold

What would a summer be without ice cream? no summer I feel the same way. When eating ice cream, however, I heed the Ayurvedic recommendation that at least one hour should pass before and following eating ice cream, so that Agni, the digestive fire, can work undisturbed. The best time to enjoy ice cream or a chilled drink is in the followingnoon. When your lunch meal is metabolized and dinner isn’t for an hour or two.

Unsolicited : As a Pitta type, eating too much bread is not beneficial. Start the day with a Pitta balancing oatmeal.
