Sad scene in Zelzate, in East Flanders. Footage shows a group of youths humiliating and abusing a kneeling, helpless teenager. The facts obviously take place near a sports hall. Panicked, the victim is on his knees, in tears, surrounded by the other protagonists.
The video is circulating fast online and local police have already opened an investigation into the incident. “We received the footage last night. We believe that we will soon be able to identify the young suspects,” the police told our colleagues at Het Laatste Nieuws.
If the badly treated youngster is on his knees, it is because the gang that oppresses him demands it. He runs. His head is pushed towards the ground, on the feet of the aggressors. “Kiss! Kiss!”, shout the youngsters before beating up their prey for long seconds.
The police in charge of the investigation announced that the events had taken place on Friday. “He is a minor victim, and the suspects appear to be too. We were still in contact with the victim and his parents this morning”, indicated the police zone which takes the incident seriously. “We transmit the images internally to all our teams. We think it’s mostly boys from Zelzate. We will probably be able to quickly identify the suspects.”
Brent Meuleman, mayor of Zelzate, also reacted to our Dutch-speaking colleagues: “We are taking this matter very seriously. What is happening in these images is appalling. I condemn this type of behavior in every way.”
