Authorities have decided to deport an Arab expatriate who arrived at the Kuwait airport to fly home following joking that he had a bomb in his luggage. The incident took place at Kuwait Airport last day. During the routine check, the officials asked the non-resident passenger what was in the luggage.
But he gave a joking reply that there was a bomb in the luggage. Although he later corrected that he was joking, the game turned serious. Officials retrieved his luggage and handed it over to the relevant authorities without allowing him to travel, local media reported.
Similar incidents have happened before. On July 28, Sabu Varghese (55), a resident of Pathanamthitta Mannamthurathi Malakkapuzha Maththiparam, was arrested by the police in connection with the bomb threat at the airport.
While queuing to check-in at the airport, Sabu was humiliated when he joked that someone else had a bomb in his bag.
After the airline staff informed the security department, they came and arrested Sabu and interrogated him. Later handed over to Nedumbassery police. Sabu was booked for causing panic at the airport by making a bomb threat but was later released
These incidents are examples of how such pranks can create serious problems in high security settings such as airports.
