The Netflix platform has begun testing video game streaming as of Monday, according to what was announced by the deputy director of the games department, Mike Verdue, in a statement. Some “Netflix” subscribers in Canada and the United Kingdom can view the broadcast platform’s games, via televisions and the platform’s website. Verdu described the move as a “limited beta test” with a “small number of members,” according to the statement, so not all subscribers in the two countries will get it. Although this initial launch is limited, it represents a major milestone in the path of Netflix’s ambitions in the gaming sector. The company first launched mobile gaming offers as a free feature for subscribers in November 2021. So far, the games are only available on iOS and Android devices. The two games available now are Oxenfree from the Netflix-owned studio Nightskool, and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, which is described as a “gem-mining arcade”. And when playing via TV, the user will control the games using their smartphone. On Android, the console can be accessed through the Netflix app, while on iOS devices the user will need to download a special console app.
