The management of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS is singled out. Organizations and the union representing social workers denounce the establishment’s desire to offer rapid training to workers so that they can lend a hand to the Department of Youth Protection (DPJ).

“We have interveners who come to have youth protection files imposed on them. We come to denounce the fact that the employer uses the stick, that is to say the threats of disciplinary measures if they do not take these files, “said the president of the APTS, Robert Comeau. .

The CIUSSS denies these allegations.

“There are no plans to have sanctions for these employees,” said the acting director of mental health, addictions and homelessness programs, Judith Kodsi.

His colleague, assistant director of youth protection, Manon Marcotte also explains that the goal is to work in collaboration.

A short training, but for how long?

The workers maintain that only a three-hour training is offered to those who do not have expertise in youth protection.

“I have 30 years of experience in the network. I would not go to youth protection following three hours of training on my computer,” said the president of RÉCIFS, Marjolaine Goudreau.

However, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS ensures that the training is a two-day one that allows you to know the basics of youth protection to work in collaboration with experienced workers.

However, many would feel uncomfortable working outside their area of expertise.

“People what they tell us: ‘it’s me if I have this type of file imposed on me, it’s possible that I’ll leave my job to go work elsewhere'”, mentioned the director of labor relations. at APTS Estrie, Jessica Burns.

The CIUSSS nevertheless ensures that these employees will be listened to. However, the workers fear that there will be more of them dealing with the same file. The deputy director of the DPJ also admits that there is often a turnover in the files and cannot predict whether it will become more important.

In the meantime, we are asking the Minister of Social Services to intervene.

“What I would like to see from the ministry and from Minister Carmant is to listen more to what is happening in the network, to stop putting pressure on them so that the lists are reduced, but rather to give them the means to reduce these lists”, launched the member for Sherbrooke, Christine Labrie.

Asked regarding TVA Nouvelles, the office of the Minister of Social Services, Lionel Carmant, replied that “always with the health and safety of children in mind, measures have been requested to reduce waiting lists in the six regions where the situation at the level of expectation is the most problematic. It’s not a question of numbers, it’s a question of protecting our children who are waiting for services”.
