E-commerce in Brazil has experienced a change since 2020. According to data from the institute NielsenIQEbitthe year 2022 saw a 24% increase in the number of consumers purchasing online in the country, compared to the previous year.
The report revealed that Brazilian e-commerce grew by 2% throughout 2022, with the months of January, February and May being considered the most promising. The digital market segments with the lowest average ticket, that is, those that offer more accessible products, were the ones that prospered the most during the period. Among them, the sectors of food and beverages stood out, with an increase of 82.8% in the volume of orders; followed by perfumery and cosmetics, with 22.5%; health, with 16.9%; babies and company, with 12.3%; and sport and leisure, with 8.4%.
Furthermore, a survey carried out by the Insider Intelligence pointed Brazil as one of the ten countries with the highest expectations of growth in e-commerce worldwide, in the year 2022. ABComm Forecast (Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce) also released relevant data, pointing out that e-commerce revenues in Brazil in 2022 reached the mark of R$ 169.59 billion. These numbers represent a significant difference of more than 18 billion compared to the previous year’s revenue, which was R$ 150.82 billion.
According to the commercial director of contajá, Heitor Carvalho, Brazil has a very strong sales scenario and this change intensified during the pandemic. “In several age groups, the change in the consumption profile has already happened. E-commerce is a prime example of adaptation and innovation and is reaching record numbers with each passing year,” he says.
The expert points out that, in an online business, the tendency is for a customer’s purchase speed to be lower, requiring a good logistics and transport structure. “This brings different challenges to e-commerce, requiring great harmony between strategic partners”, he analyzes.

according to a study conducted by NuvemShop, small and medium-sized companies in the e-commerce segment moved approximately BRL 703 million in the first quarter of 2023, registering a growth of 23% compared to the same period of the previous year.
