Diablo 4: here’s why Blizzard was forced to stop this feature in an emergency and has just put it back

Blizzard has it all planned…

The Auction House in Diablo III did not last long. Indeed, two years following its implementation, Blizzard chose to remove this feature which, in the long term, came to “alter the principle of the game”.

When we originally designed and implemented Auction Houses, our primary goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trading. But, as we have already mentioned on several occasions, it appeared that it was gradually becoming a diversion from the main game mechanics of Diablo, namely: the discovery of superb objects on the corpses of monsters, and this despite the benefits of the auction house system for the many players around the world. For this reason, we have decided to remove the entire gold and real money auction house system from the game. Blizzard

In order not to make the same mistake once more, Blizzard decided not to implement this controversial feature in Diablo IV, however, this did not prevent abuse.

… But it wasn’t enough

Not long ago, Blizzard had to intervene urgently to prevent anyone from making trades in Diablo IV. Some malicious players have indeed taken advantage of a bug to duplicate their gold and their objects. To do this, all you had to do was start an exchange with another player, then force the closure of Diablo 4. Once the game was restarted, the shared objects were found in both inventories.

Of course, all this started to destroy the economic system of the game. It is for this reason that Blizzard has simply decided to (temporarily) remove this feature.

We have suspended player trades in Diablo IV until further notice due to a gold and item duplication exploit. We are working on a fix to address this issue and will let you know as soon as we restore functionality. Once done, we will continue to monitor this activity to ensure a healthy gaming experience for everyone. Blizzard

Today, the “exchange” feature is back in the news, however, Blizzard warns:

We re-enabled trading in Diablo IV tonight following fixing the bug (…). Taking advantage of bugs to duplicate items with third parties may result in account actions. Blizzard

What you need to understand by this is that if you decide to play with fire, know that your account can simply be banned. In other words, it is not recommended to use the flaws of a game.
