Summer Heat Wave Forecast: Rising Temperatures and Clear Skies in France and Belgium – Bulletin for August 17, 2023

2023-08-16 16:58:00

Hello Marie! We are regarding to potentially experience the hottest streak of the summer. This is quite unusual in this period, because the sun rises less high and brings less heat energy. However, by the end of the week, a heat dome will settle over France and Belgium, causing a drastic rise in temperatures. We will already reach 30°C in the plain this Friday before a small drop on Saturday, as a few thunderstorms pass over the west (24 to 27°C). From Sunday, the sun will prevail once more. The flow will turn to the south, which will generate an advection of air of subtropical origin. Between Monday and Thursday (with a peak on Tuesday), temperatures can reach 31 to 34°C in the plain.

The bulletin for this Thursday, August 17, 2023

The atmosphere will continue to dry out as pressure rises in the North Sea advecting more continental air. However, watch out for the formation of low clouds at the end of the night. They will be quite widespread early in the morning on the country. The sun will break through faster over Hainaut-Flandres before spreading to Brabants, then to the southern provinces above a veil of cirrus clouds. Clearings will once more alternate with cumulus fields except at the sea where the sky will be quite clear.

In the followingnoon, it should look like this Wednesday with alternating sunshine and cumulus fields with the risk of a last shy cloud on our eastern borders. Then, the sky will tend to clear near France while the clouds will be more recalcitrant north of the capital and the Ardennes relief. The wind will remain moderate from the northeast and the maximum will reach between 21°C on the summits and 26°C on the west. The following night will be starry everywhere.
