For some time now, the native Notes application (Notes) from Apple allows you to scan documents in a very simple way. Thus, you can transform those who are in the physical world to the digital world – which can help if you need to send it by email or just want to keep your personal documentation stored in a more secure way.
There are, however, several apps on the App Store that are dedicated to doing just that. One such example is the iScannerfrom the American developer BP Mobile.
The application, available since 2016, has the main objective of allowing you to scan physical documents (such as a passport, birth certificate or any other type) to be stored and shared digitally wherever you want. But it goes far beyond serving just that.
Why use a third-party app to scan documents?
Despite this main objective, the cool thing regarding iScanner is that it has several other interesting features, allowing you to use innovative tools to make your day to day even easier.
There are, for example, options for storing the documents using a proprietary cloud storage solution, as well as merging, splitting and annotating them.
To test this in practice, the app developer’s staff kindly provided us with a code to test the app and the functions available in it.
I’ve been testing it for some time and in this article I highlight five cool features that are not available in the Notes app and that can help you a lot when scanning a document or something like that. Check it out! ????
AI Finger Eraser
The novelty, introduced recently, allows you to scan the desired documents without even needing the paper to be on a surface.
It works like this: it uses an algorithm to recognize and subsequently remove the fingers present in the scans, adding the finger area with the same background used in the document.
So you can scan the document simply by holding the paper in front of you. Afterwards, just tap on “Improve” and “Erase Fingers” for the function to come into action.
In my tests, however, things did not go so well. Still, the feature can break a branch at certain times when you don’t have a good surface to scan. This is because, although it is far from perfect (as we can see in the example below), the feature certainly breaks a branch.
Remembering that the function should be used in areas where there is no obstruction of text, numbers or complex images. In addition, try to hold the document with your fingertips to facilitate the action of the resource.
object counting
iScanner offers the possibility to count objects in a document. To do so, capture the photo on the camera in “Count” mode, select the first object to be counted and tap “Count”.
It’s not that resource you’ll always use, of course, but it can break a good branch!
solve math questions
Need to solve a math problem? Because iScanner can help with this function, too. Just open the camera inside the app, select “Math” and dock the document where the question is.
measure an area
Apple already has an app dedicated to measuring objects using the iPhone/iPad camera. However, iScanner does a very similar process, which can be useful when you want to know the size of the document or something like that.
Add a watermark
Need to add a unique watermark to an important document? iScanner has a function to do this. In addition to adding the text you want, you can also choose between eight different fonts, word size, spacing, transparency and its color.
iScanner is free and is available on the App Store for iPhones and iPads. A paid version, however, unlocks several features — among them, math calculations and counting modes, converting scans to TXT, XLS, DOC formats and removing distortions in images.
