Deadly Ambush in Niger: 17 Soldiers Killed by Terrorists in Torodi Region

Dakar, August 16 (APS) – Seventeen Nigerien soldiers were killed Tuesday in an ambush by terrorists in the department of Torodi (Tillaberi region), reports the Nigerian Press Agency (ANP), quoting the ministry of the defense.

“17 soldiers died in Niger, this Tuesday, August 15, 2023, while 20 others were injured following an ambush by terrorists in the department of Torodi (Tillaberi Region)”, indicates a press release from the Ministry of National Defense.

The same source reports that “on August 15, 2023 around 1:30 p.m., a detachment of the Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN) moving between Boni and Torodi was the victim of a terrorist ambush near the town of Koutougou (52 km north of south-west of Torodi)”.

According to the text, ”the prompt reaction of the military and the air-land response at the scene of the clash made it possible to deal with the enemy. A search operation is still in progress.

On the “enemy” side, “two columns of more than fifty motorcycles each destroyed (i.e. more than a hundred terrorists neutralized) were recorded during their withdrawal”, according to the press release taken up by the ANP.
