A BlaBlaCar recorded his best semester since arriving in Brazil. During the first six months of 2023, the company saw its activity grow by 45% compared to the same period last year. The app even implemented a vaccination certificate feature for travel at the time.
Tatiana Mattos is head of the brand in the country and commented on the milestone:
In early 2023, specialists already stated that this would be the year of recovery for the travel and tourism sector in Brazil, following a challenging period imposed by the pandemic. Today, BlaBlaCar numbers prove this recovery, and we project an even more positive second half, with more and more people using modes such as carpooling and buses for their trips
As for the numbers, there was a 40% increase in the number of trips compared to the first six months of last year. Likewise, bus tickets sold increased by 140% compared to the same period in 2022. That is, both modalities had records.
It is also worth mentioning that there was a 45% growth in the total number of seats offered compared to the first half of last year. Also, check out which were the main travel routes:
Praia Grande <> São Paulo São Paulo <> Campinas São José dos Campos <> São Paulo João Pessoa <> Recife Caruaru <> Recife
In terms of buses, the platform recorded a 60% increase in new routes available, with more than 200 companies offering tickets for more than 18,000 routes across Brazil. The Southeast was the region with the highest number of sales over the first six months of the year.
Present in Brazil since 2015, BlaBlaCar already had the national market as its third best in 2019. Now, it seems that the situation has had a considerable leap of improvement.
