Max Verstappen’s Dominance and Red Bull’s Unbeaten Season in F1: A Game-Changing Era

McLaren boss Zak Brown says if Red Bull Racing didn’t have Max Verstappen and had two Sergio Perez, F1 would have had a heated season. Red Bull have won every sprint race and grand prix this year and are on the road to the first unbeaten season in F1 history.

Verstappen entered the mid-season summer break with an eighth win in a row and a 125-point lead over team-mate Perez. In an interview with ESPN, Brawn said Verstappen’s talent has turned Red Bull’s dominance into hegemony. “As much as Red Bull is killing everybody right now… actually Max is killing everybody right now,” said Brown. “Max and Red Bull are unbeatable so far and neither Max nor the team have made a mistake,” he said. I mean, Max and Red Bull are something special.” While Red Bull are winning comfortably at the front, the battle behind them regularly changes positions. Aston Martin had emerged as a clear second place before Mercedes benefitted greatly from the upgrades it introduced at Monaco. Brown’s McLaren has overtaken its rivals in the standings with major upgrades that have landed Norris on the podium at Silverstone and Budapest. “If we take Max out and give everyone who finished second this year a win, it’s going to be a pretty competitive and exciting championship,” added Brown. “We are second, Aston is second, Ferrari is second, Mercedes is second, Sergio is second. There will be five teams that will win this year’s race.” I think that will be the F1 situation if we catch up.” There are fears that Verstappen’s overwhelming strength will dampen the current F1 boom and drive fans away. When asked if he thought so, Brawn replied: “No, I think the race is very exciting. It’s not just regarding who wins. It’s racing all over the field and the racing is great.” “I think we’ve seen viewership higher than ever in other sports with Tiger Woods winning every single time and people celebrating watching athletes at the top of their sports.” We don’t want the situation to last forever, but I don’t think it will hurt us.The depth of competition is attractive, the races are very exciting and they tend to cover the entire field.” For reasons I don’t want to see this continue, but at the moment it’s completely sustainable.”
