Between a rainy month of July and the release of several American blockbusters, cinemas are enjoying great success this summer. More than 18 million French people went there last month, according to the National Center for Cinema and Moving Image.
That the Covid period seems distant for French cinemas. In difficulty in recent years, cinemas are having a good summer, notably marked by an exceptional month of July. Nearly three million spectators for Oppenheimermore than two million for Indiana Jones. This summer, American blockbusters brought French audiences back to theaters en masse.
“Customers came to take refuge in our rooms”
Between a very rich offer and gray weather, the French rushed into the theaters to the delight of Léa Malassenet, team manager in this Parisian cinema. “There was still a lot of rain. Customers came to take refuge in our rooms. Knowing that in July, normally, it’s the holidays, so we have very few customers. [Normalement] the weather is very nice and customers prefer to take advantage of the good weather.”
According to the National Center for Cinema and Animated Image, more than 18 million French people went to the cinema in July, or 33% more than in July 2022.
