DUBLIN – Ireland is set to become the first country to offer paid leave for victims of domestic violence. The government has decided to provide paid leave to the victim of domestic violence whether it is the husband or the wife. Now the government has allowed five days of paid leave.

The government has reached such a decision to provide support to the victims of domestic violence if they are unable to work without affecting their employment and income. The government said it will ensure they get their full salary even if they are away from work.

A maximum of five days leave is available in a year. Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Roderick O’Gorman said the decision on paid leave was reached following consultation with employer representatives, trade unions and organizations supporting victims of domestic violence.
