All India Football Federation is ready to consider players with dual citizenship in the national team. The AIFF formed a task force to assess the status of Indian-origin and non-resident Indian football players and their chances of playing in the Indian team.
The task force will assess the current situation of players of Indian origin playing in various leagues around the world. The task force will be headed by Punjab Football Association president and senior sports administrator Sameer Thapar. The AIFF has decided to announce the names of other members of the task force following consultation with the chairman and the executive committee. The task force report should be submitted by January 31, 2024. Currently, players of Indian origin cannot play for the national team even though they have dual citizenship as per the country’s laws. The Football Federation is trying to amend this rule. It requires accurate and comprehensive information. That is why this task force was formed, AIFF said.
