“Following a collision, the pedestrian found herself under the vehicle and was dragged several meters before the vehicle stopped on rails,” said firefighter spokesman Walter Derieuw. “The tram was lifted using internal hydraulic cylinders present in the latest generation public transport vehicle. The unfortunate victim was therefore quickly freed and taken care of by the medical team. The injured, conscious but in a worrying state, was stabilized on the spot before being evacuated to the Erasmus hospital.

The tram driver, shocked by the incident, was also transferred to a hospital.
