After the victory of Javier Milei, in the PASO 2023, the head of the block of national senators of the ruling party, José Mayans, made a self-criticism. He said the results reflect “the economic concern of Argentine voters.”

In an interview on FM Digital de Formosa, Mayans acknowledged that the ruling party failed to effectively communicate its position on public borrowing of the Mauricio Macri administration and said that “the renegotiation of this debt is a crucial factor for the economic stability of the country.”

“Despite the efforts, the lack of understanding regarding the automatic distribution system of funds and the need to comply with multiple financial commitments has hindered the positive perception of the government,” said the senator from Formosa.

Regarding the October general elections, Mayans stressed that “The challenge is to stabilize the economyespecially in a context of debt maturities and pressing financial commitments”.

He added that the government “will take note of the discontent expressed in the PASO and we will concentrate on stabilizing the economy.”

“The task is great, since it deals with comply with unavoidable commitments while seeking to improve the economic situation and convey confidence to the population,” he emphasized.

The PASO, he maintained, “have left an electoral surprise with the victory of Javier Milei, which reflects the discontent and economic concern of Argentine voters.”
