The artistic director of the Wiener Volkstheater will fulfill his contract in Vienna and will head the Schauspiel Köln from the 2025/26 season – a seamless transition guaranteed
Vienna (OTS) – As has now been officially confirmed, the artistic director of the Volkstheater Wien, Kay Voges, will be in charge of the Schauspiel Köln from the 2025/26 season. State Secretary for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer and Vienna’s Executive City Councilor for Culture and Science Veronica Kaup-Hasler congratulated Kay Voges on his new position.
Andrea Mayer: Successful new start for the Volkstheater
“Kay Voges gave the Volkstheater a successful restart following the pandemic and the general renovation of the house. My thanks and recognition go to him for that,” said State Secretary for the Arts and Culture Andrea Mayer. “I congratulate him warmly on his future assignment in Cologne and wish him all the best. After Kay Voges will fully fulfill his contract, a seamless transition following the 2024/25 season is also guaranteed. I am sure that the federal government and the city, as the main sponsors of the house, will find the best solution for his successor together and quickly.”
Kaup-Hasler: Volkstheater has undergone an impressive development with Voges
“I congratulate Kay Voges on this appointment, even if I take the news with great regret,” Vienna City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler reacted to the personnel decision. “Under the direction of Kay Voges, the Volkstheater has undergone an impressive development, which was also well noticed abroad. And so this call to one of the most important theaters in Germany can also be read as a sign of the strength of the Viennese Volkstheater. Successfully renovated both structurally and structurally, Kay Voges was able to reposition it despite the difficult conditions caused by the corona pandemic and develop it into one of the most exciting stages of the present. I am now all the more looking forward to the next two seasons, as Kay Voges will fully and energetically fulfill his contract with Vienna, which runs until the end of the 2024/25 season.”
Kay Voges has been artistic director of the Volkstheater since the 2020/21 season. Under his artistic direction, the Volkstheater was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen for the first time since 1970 (“humanistää!”, directed by Claudia Bauer and the co-production “All Right. Good Night. , directed by Helgard Haug, Rimini Protokoll) in 2022 and featured in the critics – Poll by Theater heute voted the second best stage in the German-speaking world in the same year.
The search for a successor for the artistic direction of the Wiener Volkstheater will start soon. The Board of Directors of the Volkstheater-Privatstiftung will initiate the advertisement for the position in the course of the autumn in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Act.
