Radstädter had his sights set on his first Challenger title in Cordenons.

Lukas Neumayer was only one win away from his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour in Cordenons (ITA) on Sunday. However, the 20-year-old tennis pro was beaten in two sets by local hero Matteo Gigante in the tournament final.

Getting into the final was hard-fought. On Friday, Neumayer had to go the full distance in the quarterfinals once morest Frenchman Matteo Martineau following losing the first set 6-1. “Luckily I was able to fight my way back,” remembers Neumayer, who won the second set 6:4 and then didn’t give the opponent any more games. In the semifinals on Saturday, the man from Radstadt had a hard time closing the sack once morest number three seeded Italian Riccardo Bonadio. “At 6: 2 and 5: 2 I had a drop in performance,” says Neumayer. Bonadio took the chance to save himself in the tie-break. There the Salzburg player converted his tenth match point with a forehand winner. In his second Challenger final following Salzburg he unfortunately had no chance with 0:6, 2:6.
