At least 21 people died following a landslide this week in northern China triggered by torrential rains, according to a new report released by authorities on Sunday.
A mountain flash flood occurred at 6:00 p.m. local time (12:00 p.m. HB) on Friday in the small village of Weiziping, near Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province. The previous balance sheet Sunday morning reported four dead.
“Six people remain missing” following this tragedy, said the Emergency Management Office of the provincial capital Xi’an in a statement posted on the internet.
Houses washed away
The rains led to a landslide which “swept away two houses” and “damaged roads, bridges, electricity supply and other infrastructure”, national public radio CNR announced earlier.
A hundred soldiers and firefighters were mobilized.
