[한국미디어뉴스통신=신화통신] This year marks the 60th anniversary of China-Australia research cooperation in the field of astronomy. Lister Stablely Smith, Australian co-director of the China-Australia Astronomical Union Research Center, recently told Xinhua News Agency that he hopes that the two countries will carry out more cooperation in the field of optics and astronomy in the future, and that research in the field of radio astronomy will be further deepened. The China-Australia Astronomical Union Research Center recently held a seminar at the University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia, to mark the 60th anniversary of astronomical science research cooperation between the two countries. The event was attended by regarding 100 experts in the field of astronomical science and research from both sides. Director Stabley Smith said at the seminar that researchers from both countries were able to pinpoint the location of a large amount of powerful radio bursts coming from galactic objects more than 7 billion light-years away from Earth. He said that this is a new discovery and an interesting topic. He added that he believes that the cornerstone of China-Australia research cooperation in astronomical science is the exchange of ideas and technologies on astrophysics, cosmology, and understanding the universe. Such exchanges will always bring progress in science. said to have given In 1963, Professor Wilbur Norman Christiansen, an astronomer and graduate student of the Australian Academy of Sciences, visited China and helped build the first aperture synthesis radio telescope with a diameter of 9 m. It has achieved significant results through extensive and in-depth cooperation in various fields of astronomical science research, including research and equipment. Director Stabley Smith said that countries such as Australia and China signed the ‘Agreement to Establish a Square Kilometer Array Observatory’ as founding member states. Accordingly, in-depth cooperation was also achieved on the 500-meter spherical radio telescope (FAST), marking an important milestone in astronomy research cooperation between the two countries. © Korea Media News Communication Unauthorized reproduction and redistribution prohibited
