This fall, some French people will have to pay a balance of income tax. For households in difficulty, a payment schedule adapted to each situation can be set up.
Although the tax notices are available on impots.gouv.fr since August 4, for some taxpayers, it’s almost time to pay the bill. Indeed, nearly ten million French people will have to pay additional income tax. A situation that arises when the amount of tax deducted from the return is greater than the total deductions made the previous year.
Concerning the payment of the tax balance, Bercy has set up a simple procedure. When the amount is less than or equal to 300 euros, the tax authorities proceed to a single bank levy. This year it will take place on September 25.
Beyond 300 euros, a schedule is automatically set up by the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP). It will relieve the household budget. Thus, this fall, the bank withdrawals will be on September 25, October 26, November 27 and December 27.
Use the payment term
Despite the deadline, some taxpayers still encounter difficulties in paying the amount of tax due. For them, it is then possible to request a “payment period”, as Bercy reminds us. The request must be filed no later than the last day of the month preceding the direct debit. For example, before September 30 for a direct debit in October.
It is necessary to connect to the personal space on impots.gouv.fr. Then, you have to go to the secure messaging system and click on “Write”, then on “I have a problem concerning the payment of my taxes – I have difficulty paying”. In the next step, the taxpayer must check the box “Income tax”. The amount of tax to be paid, the desired duration of the installments, and the date from which the taxed person plans to start the installment must be indicated. In addition, a space is dedicated to the taxpayer in order to explain the situation in detail.
An alternative to digital
Form No.4805-AP-SD can also be completed in paper format. The applicant must specify his income (salary, social benefits, retirement pension, etc.) and his expenses (housing, electricity, vehicle, etc.). But also his heritage and the income of other people in the household. This document must be delivered to the tax authorities by appointment. You must provide a tax notice, a bank account statement (RIB), and proof of the difficulties and circumstances invoked (salary slips, rents, utility bills, etc.).

If there is no response within two months, the request is considered refused. However, if the case is particularly complex, the administration’s response time is extended to four months. The taxpayer must be informed within two months by a public finance officer. When the request is validated, it is always accompanied by a timetable.
