Seoul: After typhoon Khanun entered the Korean peninsula, the North Korean government gave a strange advice to the people. The main suggestion is to protect portraits and statues of dictator Kim Jong Un without damage. Pictures of Kim Jong-un, his father Kim Jong-il and North Korea’s founding leader Kim Il-sung were ordered to be preserved.

The proposal was made through Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the ruling Korean Workers’ Party. The security of statues, murals, and monuments depicting the legacy of the Kim clan should also be emphasized. It is reported that even damage to these can lead to punishment including death penalty.

Widespread restrictions were also imposed in South Korea following the typhoon. Two people died in China following storm and torrential rains. Train service suspended in Liaoning province.
