The mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei, referred this Saturday to the resignation of Giorgio Jackson from the Ministry of Social Development and stated that “regardless of whether it is an act of justice or not, political realism prevailed.”

The community chief, who is also one of the names that, according to the polls, leads before an upcoming presidential election, pointed out that Jackson “was in difficulties.”

“Some might consider it fair, others may consider it unfair, anyway, but in the end realities prevail and he was with a reality that was no longer sustainable,” he said from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, to publicize the results. of the survey “Challenges of democracy and women’s leadership in Chile”.

In this sense, Matthei added that “political realism prevailed and hopefully also now in what is coming in the conversations of substantive issues, which are the ones that should always matter to us, beyond what happens with various people, there is also the I respect what the citizens are asking for, what the citizens want, so there is still a lot to do”.

In addition, regarding the position that the UDI had of not negotiating on pension matters with the ruling party until Jackson resigned, the mayoress clarified that “it is likely that talks with the government will be resumed”, since with the departure of the now ex-minister “Dialogue would probably be facilitated.”

In this way, Matthei stressed that “they (the UDI board) said that this (Jackson’s resignation) was the condition. The condition was met, so he’s probably going to come back.”

Even so, he maintained that “it is very important to point out that the vast majority of Chileans want all 6% to go to their account and the vast majority of people want to be able to decide for themselves and not be imposed on who is going to manage their funds.” ”.
