The Japanese company increased its profit by more than 50% in the first quarter of 2023, in particular thanks to the adventures of the brave blond hero and the mythical series of the little mustachioed Italian plumber, to the delight of cinemas and specialized stores, which benefit cardboard.

Video game heroes Super Mario Bros and Zelda are doing Nintendo business thanks to the success of the latest Mario movie and Zelda game. What do these two Nintendo franchises have in common? They are 40 years old and they have succeeded in renewing themselves over the years. The sales of the last episode of Zelda, a legendary series of video games, confirm this. Already 18.5 million copies had been sold worldwide at the end of June.

Long-awaited licenses with each release

A phenomenon visible as far away as France. For Sam, who works in a Parisian video game store, it’s without hesitation the game of 2023. “We sold all the stocks we had received. As soon as we restocked, everything went directly. We really saw how eagerly awaited the release,” the seller describes.

Full box also for Super Mario Bros, which was exported from the console to the big screen. In a cinema in Suresnes contacted by Europe 1, the film remained on display for eight weeks, twice as long as normal and bringing together young and old. “In concrete terms, we have exceeded 3,500 entries. We have made 3,590 paying entries on Super Mario Bros. This is the second best result of the year 2023”, details Kévin Jardel, the site manager. In France, the film has exceeded seven million admissions, so Nintendo might continue its strategy on the big screen and, why not, with Zelda.
