At Easter, it was in Rome that the children of Prince Laurent and Princess Claire had found the Bourbon-Sicilies. The friends are distant cousins because the Belgian royal family descends from Louis XIV like the family of Bourbon-Siciles. The Belgian royal family also descends from Louis-Philippe 1st of the French and his wife, Queen Marie-Amélie, born Princess of the Two Sicilies and daughter of King Ferdinand 1st of the Two Sicilies. Also, Louis-Philippe 1st is a descendant of Philippe d’Orléans, brother of Louis XIV, who was one of the ancestors of the Bourbon-Siciles family.
