In the first competitive game of the new season in the first round of the DFB Cup, Borussia Mönchengladbach recorded a clear 7-0 victory at Oberliga side TuS Bersenbrück and thus confidently advanced to the next round of the competition.
After a few minutes, however, the foals might have fallen behind, captain Jonas Omlin (29) prevented the early 0:1 from Gladbach’s point of view with a strong double save.
After 20 minutes, VfL got their act together and opened the scoring. Franck Honorat (22′), Nathan Ngoumou (27′) and two Tomas Cvancara (32′ and 35′) ensured a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break within 15 minutes.

It might have been even higher. Cvancara missed the empty goal, Maximilian Wöber hit the post, Ngoumou hit the crossbar. In the meantime, Borussia didn’t let anything burn on the defensive, Bersenbrück mainly scored shots on goal through attempts from distance.
After the change of sides, Franck Honorat continued to cause danger, whether on the right or on the left. It was also the Frenchman who made it 5-0 in the 56th minute.
As a result, Gladbach controlled the game and shifted down a gear. It was only following a quadruple change in the 71st minute that a fresh breeze came in. Substitutes Robin Hack (77th) and Grant-Leon Ranos (89th) made it 6-7 and 7-0 for a befitting first-round success.
