Alexis McAllister’s father, Carlos Javier McAllister, was actually a teammate of Diego Maradona. Now his son McAllister is playing with another legend, Lionel Messi! Twenty-four-year-old Alexis McAllister is one of Argentina’s Qatar World Cup heroes.

Midfielder who builds a wall in defense and plays forwards. A young fighter who often comes in as a substitute and fights for his life. McAllister joined Liverpool this season following a string of impressive performances at English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. Liverpool acquired the player for 3.5 crore pounds (regarding 360 crore rupees). From an online interview with McAllister.

∙ Coming to Liverpool?

It was an easy decision to be honest. Right from the beginning, the club’s sporting director and coach Jurgen Klopp showed interest in me. In the first few weeks I might see why Liverpool are a big club. Not only the players, but everything including the team’s method and rules is very good. Really enjoyed the training. Hope to have a good season.

∙ Role and position in the club?

Aspires to play on the right side in the team line-up. But this is football. If the coach feels that he needs me more on the left side, that will follow. Coach Jurgen Klopp knows what I can do as a player. Will try to play as simple as possible. The desire is to create opportunities for goals and also to score goals.

∙ Experience at Anfield Stadium?

Anfield, Liverpool’s home ground, is amazing. I have very good memories at the stadium. Hope to get more of that as a Liverpool player. When it comes to excitement and enjoyment, I compare Liverpool fans to fans of Boca Juniors in Argentina.

What are you and the club aiming for this season?

The Premier League title is a big goal for the club. That’s the first goal. In Europe this year we are playing the Europa League. Achieving it is another goal. The Champions League is every player’s dream. It won’t be possible this year as the team doesn’t qualify, but hopefully it will be possible next year.

∙ Picked the number 10 jersey?

There were number 8 and 10 jerseys to choose from. There was a bit of confusion. Because I know how big this club’s number 8 jersey is. (Former captain Steven Gerrard wore the number 8 jersey). But number 10 is the jersey I used for the Argentina Under-23 national team and Brighton. So that is the most suitable and preferred number for me.
