Sydney McLaughlin had already forfeited the 400m Diamond League meeting in Monaco on July 21. Initially registered in the 400m in Monaco, a discipline she decided to favor in 2023 with the aim of beating the record of the German (ex-RDA) Marita Koch (47 sec 60/100th in 1985), McLaughlin might aim for Worlds a 4th title following those of the 400m hurdles (2022) and the 4x400m relay (2019 and 2022).
The sprinter won the 400m of the American selections in Eugene (Oregon) in early July in 48 sec 74/100th, achieving at the same time the best performance in the world of the season in the discipline.
