If there was a championship for the dumbest underground deposit, this candidate would end up very highly ranked.

You may not know it, but the Gombe, located a few meters from one of the loops of the Ourthe in the town of Esneux, more precisely near the village of Monfort, is an old disused quarry which presents a magnificent point of clear water with a depth of 30 meters around which a diving club has been established. “In a privileged, calm and very green environment. In these waters, varied fauna and flora can be admired for the greatest pleasure of divers”, can we read on the website of the Liège Center for Underwater Activities.

SOS Pollution called

And it is in this idyllic place that an unscrupulous individual decided to throw his waste. This Friday morning, from the cliff overlooking the quarry, he dumped a 20-litre drum of used engine oil into the body of water below.

As it fell, the was in question was slightly pierced in contact with the rocks. Product leaked out and ended up in the clear water of the quarry causing pollution of around 100 square meters.

Warned, the firefighters intervened on the spot equipped with a pumper. SOS Pollution was also warned because of the pollution alert in the quarry.

The men on fire then packed the pierced barrel in a large bag which they brought to the surface in the car park near the site.
