The Swiss tennis player Belinda Bencic (WTA 13) is in action in Montreal.

After her victory once morest Alycia Parks (WTA 47) she had to go to a one and a half hour doping test.

Bencic was anything but pleased with the control procedure.

In two hours and 41 minutes, Belinda Bencic (WTA 13) defeated American qualifier Alycia Parks (WTA 47) in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal. Instead of dedicating himself to regeneration as quickly as possible following the exhausting marathon match, I had to the Swiss tennis ace but wait more than an hour at the anti-doping control.

The control and its circumstances really drove Bencic up the wall. “Well, I just spent an hour and a half in the anti-doping control because of course I mightn’t pee following a three-hour game,” the 26-year-old said in a press conference following the game.

Bencic had to beg for an ice bath and shower

After the match, she was unable to eat or go to the toilet. “I don’t know what they expect, and I don’t know why I have to go into control when I’ve won,” the Olympic champion gets annoyed. She had to beg those in charge to allow her at least an ice bath and a shower so she might recover a little following the long and tiring game.

“These are new rules. I think that’s how I’m supposed to regenerate now. Not ideal,” Bencic continues. This is despite the fact that such controls are part of the normal procedure in tournaments at this level. Friday evening (Swiss time) will show whether there was enough time to relax. Then the best Swiss tennis player meets Petra Kvitova (WTA 9) in the third round of the Canadian hard court tournament. Bencic lost four of the previous six direct duels once morest the Czech, the last of which was almost four years ago.

The tournament in Montreal also serves as a preparation for the eastern Swiss the last Grand Slam of the year. From the end of August, the US Open will take place in New York, where Bencic advanced to the semifinals in 2019 and thus achieved her best major result to date. She even managed to win the tournament in Montreal in 2015. This year she has to defend a quarter-final participation from last year.
