WKÖ tourism chairman Seeber: The decision of the EU Commission is an important signal to our companies
Vienna (OTS) – Thousands of companies have been waiting for years for promised funding – many are threatened in their existence. For them, today’s decision by the EU Commission is a ray of hope following months of negotiations with the EU Commission.
In coordination with the Ministry of Finance (BMF), the European Commission has completed the procedure for the approval of part of the corona aid. This means that there is a new legal basis for the long-awaited help for those companies that might not be processed further due to the definition of “affiliated companies” and for those whose applications might not be processed due to unclear interpretation of deadlines. However, the directive still requires the approval of Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler for national implementation.
Almost 3,000 applications out of a total of around 5,300 are affected in the case of loss compensation III alone (funding volume approx. 170 million euros). The cancellation bonus III involves around 130 applications (funding volume 2.4 million euros).
Robert Seeber, WKÖ Federal Section Chairman, appeals to the Vice Chancellor to act quickly here: “According to COFAG, the COVID-19 Federal Financing Agency GmbH, a total of around 8,500 applications for help from local companies are currently still open, a large part from tourism. Around 4,000 of these depend on the still unresolved issues relating to EU state aid law. Therefore, the approval by the EU Commission is an important signal in the direction of our companies, because: Sufferers were and are companies, some of which have been waiting for years for the subsidies or over which the sword of Damocles of a repayment is hanging!
One thing is clear for Seeber: The Chamber of Commerce will support the affected companies. “Although a negotiated solution is always preferable, if it is no longer possible, we will also support promising model proceedings. We have a number of expert opinions and publications by renowned top lawyers that underpin the claims of the companies. Nevertheless, our primary goal is to finally achieve a quick and uncomplicated package solution in the interests of the company. If possible, complex and lengthy legal disputes should be avoided,” Seeber concludes. (PWK257/ES)
