Mother Nature is not kind to agricultural producers this year. The Quebec region broke a precipitation record on Tuesday and fields suffered.
Some farmers have lost almost their entire harvest, which represents significant financial losses.

Normally, the month of August receives 104 millimeters of rain, in total. But this summer, 122 millimeters of water fell earlier in nine days.
According to Jean-Julien Plante, a farmer on Île d’Orléans, the future lies in the umbrella shelters that protect his raspberries.
“These shelters protected us from the 108 millimeters of water we had yesterday. The main advantage is that it protects once morest the rain, but it also allows the production season to be extended.”

It is also a way to adapt to climate change, according to the farmer.
“What we are seeing now is only the beginning. You have to learn to adjust,” he added.
