Festivals should take up the idea of free “everyone” performances

The “Play of the Rich Man’s Dying” was not to be performed at the Salzburg Festival for a few years. During this time, Hofmannsthal’s little play “Der Tor und der Tod” might be shown. This short piece can be wonderfully combined with Schubert’s D minor Quartet.
As director, I would look for a director for “Jedermann” who focuses on the poetic – arbitrariness and involuntary comedy have no place in this play.
Also this year the “Jedermann” will be given many times – at least one performance should have been freely accessible for everyone! Mr. Dankl’s good idea doesn’t please Mr. Crepaz at all. However, Mr. Crepaz forgets: It is to be expected that these “undesirable” future festival visitors will emerge. Because a real performance cannot be repeated, it has its own flair!
Well, it will probably have failed because of mammon. But I think to myself: If Mr. Crepaz had followed Mr. Dankl, the participants and he himself would still earn more than enough.
