Russian air defenses shot down two combat drones that were heading towards Moscow, the mayor of the Russian capital announced early Wednesday, amid an increase in such attacks targeting the Russian capital.
“The attempt of two combat drones to enter the city has been noted. Both were shot down by air defense. One in the Domodedovo area (south of the capital, editor’s note), the second in the Minsk highway area”, west of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram, without mentioning the origin of the ‘offensive.
“For the moment, there is no information concerning victims” linked to the fall of the downed machines, he added, specifying that the emergency services are on the scene.
Ukrainian drone attacks have multiplied in recent weeks on Russian territory, often targeting Moscow and the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Russia said on Monday it had shot down a Ukrainian drone in the Kaluga region, less than 200 km southwest of Moscow, following destroying seven others on Thursday in the same region. On Sunday, Mr. Sobianine announced that a drone targeting the capital had been shot down by air defense forces.
Authorities said Moscow suffered several drone attacks last week, including one that damaged an office building in the main business district, which was targeted twice within days.
