Jeddah: The Saudi Cabinet has formed a special authority for the affairs of Makkah Madinah Harams. The Hajj Umrah Minister will be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority. The Authority will be directly supervised by the Saudi King.
The Presidency of Masjid-ul-Haram and Masjid-e-Nabawi Affairs will henceforth be known as the General Authority of the two Harams. The Saudi cabinet approved the new authority with independent mandate. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at the Al Salam Palace in Jeddah, chaired by King Salman, the Servant of the Holy Shrines.
The new authority will be responsible for the services, maintenance, development and operations related to the Haram Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. Tawfiq Al Rabia, Minister of Hajj and Umrah, was appointed as the Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors by Royal Decree. The Cabinet has also decided to form a new Presidency of Masjidul Haram and Masjidunna Bawi Religious Affairs. This presidency will be in charge and supervise all matters related to religious affairs including the affairs of the imams and muaddins of the two Harams, the Qur’an and religious study classes in the Harams. Shaykh Abd al-Rahman al-Sudais was appointed as the head of religious affairs of both Harums by royal decree. The new change aims to make the care and development of both harems flawless and more systematic.
