“I learned a lot… Enough to realize that there is still a lot to learn!” writes the former boss of the Caisse de depot et placement du Québec. The latter says he is “impressed by the commitment and the remarkable solidarity” of his new employees.

“There is no doubt that we are facing great upheaval, but from what I have seen so far we clearly have the capacity to meet its challenges head on,” he wrote.

The new boss of the most important state company has his work cut out for him, and he is aware of it. In his letter, Michael Sabia also lists his “five main priorities”:

· Provide reliable, high-quality service to Hydro-Québec customers like the most successful companies;

· Demonstrate innovation to encourage its customers to consider electricity as a precious resource that deserves to be better consumed;

· Identify and put forward the best projects that will allow it to produce more electricity to support its ambitions, while keeping an open mind regarding all the options;

· Build new partnerships with Aboriginal communities in Quebec;

· Work to make Hydro-Québec an innovative and agile organization.

Michael Sabia took the opportunity to thank Jean-Hugues Lafleur, who served as interim pending his appointment.

Remember that the new boss of Hydro-Québec will receive an annual salary of $639,000, not including performance bonuses.

He will replace Sophie Brochu, who left on April 11 following three years at the helm of the state-owned company. Last year, Hydro-Québec paid a dividend of $3.4 billion to the Quebec government.
