WASHINGTON: Government offices in Washington DC have been ordered to close earlier than usual on Monday due to inclement weather. Businesses in the eastern United States have been closed due to the possibility of severe storms and hail.

More than 200,000 homes and businesses were destroyed in Maryland and Virginia due to strong winds and lightning. More than 800,000 customers were without power in the Atlantic states and the southern part of the United States. But no major problems were reported in the capital.

According to the National Weather Service, 29.5 million people from Alabama to western New York were affected by Monday’s storm. Following the heavy rain, the Federal Aviation Administration also suspended flight services from airports like New York, Washington, Philadelphia and Atlanta.

Museums, libraries, pools and the National Zoo have also been instructed to stop working. The management had told the workers not to stay in the establishments following three o’clock. More than 2,600 US flights were canceled, including 102 flights from Washington airports. 7700 in the US due to heavy rains
