According to the same source, the number of residents of penitentiary establishments reached, as of August 07, 2023, a total of 100,004 prisoners, a record figure, knowing that the reception capacity of these establishments does not currently exceed 64,600 beds. and this, despite the sustained efforts made by the Delegation to modernize and increase the number of prisons in the Kingdom.

To further enlighten public opinion on the subject of overcrowding in prison establishments, the Delegation indicates, by way of example, that the number of prisoners in the local prison of Aïn Sebaâ in Casablanca reached 10,877 prisoners, while the accommodation capacity does not exceed 3,800 beds.
