This Monday, Delhaize announces the takeover of 15 first self-managed supermarkets by independent entrepreneurs. In the coming weeks, these supermarkets will be transformed into independent Delhaize supermarkets. The reopening of these supermarkets as independent Delhaize supermarkets is planned during the months of October and November.
The chain specifies that all the employees of the supermarkets concerned keep their jobs as well as their current working and salary conditions. They will receive written confirmation of this in a letter signed by Delhaize and by the independent buyer.
“This is an important milestone for our supermarket associates, new independent contractors, customers and suppliers. Together, we are working to ensure a sustainable future for the Delhaize brand,” says Delhaize.
Currently, all self-managed supermarkets have at least one candidate buyer, and 90% of them even have at least 2 candidate buyers. In the coming months, Delhaize will regularly announce the transition of additional supermarkets to the independent model. Therefore, Delhaize undertakes not to close any of these 128 supermarkets under the Future Plan. This guarantee is valid at least until the end of 2028.
