Traveling by visiting as few terminals as possible? This is the bet that this Canadian team took on with a Volkswagen ID.4.
Electric car travel records have not finished making headlines in that every trip is conducive to the ultimate title. This is what Porsche and Shell did with a Taycan Cross Turismo between Bangok and Singapore. It is now the turn of Volkswagen and adventurer Rainer Zietlow to set a record.
It was in St. John’s, on the island of Newfoundland at the eastern tip of Canada, that the vehicle started. He then set off on a 7,133 km journey across the vastness of the country, to cross the finish line in Victoria, British Columbia, at kilometer 0 of the Trans-Canada Highway.

The goal: to visit as few terminals as possible throughout the course, thus eliminating any notion of time and speed. During this feat, Rainer Zietlow stopped at a total of 18 terminals, an average of 396 km between two recharges. The average consumption maintained below the 20 kWh/100 km mark therefore suggests perfectly normal use on the country’s secondary roads.
Knowing that no crew has made the same journey before, the duo and the German manufacturer therefore left with a record in their hands. Rainer Zietlow will make the return journey by road, this time taking the time to visit the 145 Volkswagen dealerships on the way.
