The legend was written a little more this Saturday in Milwaukee for the Pro Tour US Open. Jan Frodeno, 2008 Olympic champion and in the pantheon of triathletes signed his first Pro Tour victory. At 41, the German went for his victory in 3h14m12s, almost thirty seconds before the American Jason West (3h14m40s) and the world number 1, the Norwegian Kristian Blummenfelt (3h14m50s).

“It’s been an emotional few weeks,” Jan Frodeno said euphorically. “Having time to savor is rare in sport. The days when you can choose your tempo and feel really good, they are rare.” The German, who has recovered following several health concerns in recent months, concluded a triathlon with twists and turns. Late following the swim, he got back on the bike and took the lead in the race, leaving Blummenfelt in the back seat.

Knibb, first victory, at home

Taylor Knibb put on a show in front of the American public in Milwaukee. The young triathlete (24 years old, world No. 6) stole the victory from number 1, Ashleigh Gentle. The native of Rapid City won in 3h32m58s ahead of the Australian (3h33m42s) and far ahead of the Canadian Paula Findley (3h37m43s).

“Well, I’m relieved. I’m glad it’s over,” Taylor Knibb said following the win and tough fight once morest Ashley Gentle. In first place in almost all of the triathlon, the promising American had to hold on to resist the onslaught of the favorite, and impose herself courageously for the first time on the PTO Tour.

The triathletes now have an appointment on the Singapore side, where they will compete for the next stage of the PTO Tour on August 19 and 29.

Great first for Knibb: his success at the PTO US Open
