The accusation of a militarization of the education system can easily be refuted

Vienna (OTS) “The ÖH chair would be well advised to take off its ideological blinders. The statements made by the representatives of the Austrian Students’ Union show how important spiritual national defense is, since obviously many still do not know what a militia soldier can do. The fact is: militiamen are people from the middle of our society who primarily pursue their private jobs and everyday life,” says the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker.

“Through their work in the armed forces, the militia soldiers gain valuable skills in the area of security and defense policy and, in accordance with their military function, also in the area of teamwork and leadership. These competencies can be applied in the military sector as well as in companies. In national crisis situations, the Austrian Armed Forces – which according to the constitution is a militia system – is our country’s strategic reserve,” Stocker continued, who finally emphasized: “The last few days in particular have dramatically shown us how important the role of the Austrian Armed Forces as a strategic reserve of our country. The current storm situation in Carinthia, Styria and also the help in Burgenland might not be managed without the army. Using our army as a political pawn is incomprehensible. It is all the more astonishing that the SPÖ chairman Andreas Babler demanded in a press release in 2011 that the entire military be abolished.”
