Deadly Train Derailment in Pakistan: 25 Dead and 80 Injured near Sahara Railway Station

Islamabad: Train derailed in Pakistan. Geo News reported that 25 people died and 80 people were injured in the accident. The accident took place near Sahara railway station, 275 km from Karachi. Reports suggest that the death toll is likely to rise. Ten bogies of the Havelian-bound Hazara Express derailed. Following the accident, trains to the interior of Sidh district were stopped. The railway authorities have informed that it will take 18 hours to restore the train traffic.

The injured have been shifted to Nawabshah Medical College. No information has been released regarding the cause of the train derailment. Railway Divisional Superintendent Sukkur Mahmudur Rahman confirmed that ten bogies derailed. He informed that the train loco for the rescue operation is coming from Rohri and it will take three hours to reach.

The police informed that the rescue operation is going on to get people out of the bogies that have been involved in the accident. Ambulances have been dispatched to Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur for rescue operations, the Edi Foundation control room said.

Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq said in a press conference that information regarding the accident is being collected. The authorities have been warned. The railway secretary has reached Nawabshah,’ said the minister. The minister added that the preliminary investigation found that the train was running at a moderate speed and the accident might have been due to a technical fault.
