The men’s elite cycling world championship, the queen event of the “Super Worlds” in Glasgow, had to be neutralized on Sunday at 12:21 p.m. following a demonstration by environmental activists on the route between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The riders had covered 79.3 km and there were therefore 191.8 km to cover out of the 271.1 km of the event, the finish of which will be judged in Glasgow following having covered ten laps of the local 14.3 km circuit. It was at the foot of the Crow Road climb that this interruption disrupted the race, as Belgium led the peloton with Frederik Frison, in pursuit of the breakaway.

Note that in the absence of headsets, the riders were warned of the neutralization by the slate workers.

The race was finally able to start once more at 1:14 p.m., 53 minutes following the interruption.

The group of 9 breakaways were able to start once more more than 6 minutes before the peloton, which is the lead they had at the time of the pit stop. This one found itself split in two with in particular Mathieu van der Poel finding himself among the retarded.
