The “Sunday Journal” is back on newsstands. Announced for mid-August, the first edition of the weekly under the direction of Geoffroy Lejeune was published by surprise overnight. “You were waiting for it, here it is” published the weekly on twitter, referring to its front page. Its last publication dates back to June 22.

This publication follows a historic 40-day strike led by the weekly’s journalists to oppose the arrival of the former director of Valeurs Actuelles as editor-in-chief.

Last Tuesday, the Lagardère group and the Society of Journalists announced the end of the strike and the signing of an agreement providing for “the establishment of support conditions for journalists who wish to leave the editorial staff”. “It is in an empty editorial office” that Geoffroy Lejeune “will enter”, however announced the SDJ, affirming that dozens of journalists refusing to work with him “should leave the JDD”.

Volunteers and goodwill

Evoking a “baptism of fire”, Geoffroy Lejeune told the microphone of Europe 1 that this edition of the newspaper had been carried out in a “quite surreal” atmosphere with many “volunteers” and “goodwill”.

This is a 32-page issue (20 less than the last edition), the front page of which is devoted to insecurity and justice following the death of a 15-year-old boy stabbed to death. July 22 in the Eure. “It’s a number that will perhaps not mark the history of France but at least the history of the press”, continued Geoffroy Lejeune

In the pages of the newspaper, we find the signatures of former Valeurs Actuelles Charlotte d’Ornellas and Raphaël Stainville, of Pascal Praud, journalist for Europe 1 and CNews, Jacques Vendroux, for sport, or even Eric Naulleau (ex-companion of debate by Eric Zemmour).
