Erik Buell’s electric motorcycle, Fuell Flow, is now available for pre-order. This performance-oriented electric motorcycle is expected to hit the road in 2024.
Erik Buell, best known for founding Buell Motorcycles, announced Fuell, his new electric motorcycle venture, in 2019. In that same announcement, he said Fuell would begin work on his first electric motorcycle: the Fuell Flow. A few years later, Fuell gives us more details regarding the Flow and opens pre-orders today.
Erik Buell’s long-awaited electric motorcycle is available for pre-order
Erik Buell’s first foray into electric motorcycles was launched with the new Fuell Flow. The latter is now available for pre-booking at a price of $10,495 or 8 163 € at the time of writing this article. According to the company’s official press release, Fuell aims to offer city dwellers a different, innovative, scalable and attractive means of transport. To this end, the company propose la Fllow.
The latter bears a common look to electric motorcycles. It’s a sort of neo-retro cafe racer, with no front fairing, no rear beyond the long saddle, and with much of the bodywork containing the battery. Speaking of battery, the latter has a capacity of 10 kWh which, according to Fuell, allows you to reach 240 km on a single charge. It does not require more than 30 minutes to be recharged.
Practical, the Flow offers the convenience and the space of a full-size scooter, with the features and control of a mid-size motorcycle. Her maneuverability allows it to move effortlessly through heavy traffic, while its rapid acceleration compares to that of a “race ready” superbike.
Motor-wheel, an original invention of FUELL
As you’d expect from a project led by Erik Buell, his first electric motorcycle is packed with all sorts of cutting-edge innovations. For example, a integrated wheel motor. This patent-pending innovation was designed by Buell himself, specifically for the Flow. This wheel motor refers to the cross-flow motor integrated only in the rear wheel. It allows to eliminate a transmission step (chain or belt) while retaining the power and keeping the weight low enough.
In addition, the Flow will have two distinct driving modes: Urban and Ball. Cyclists will be able to choose according to their enthusiasm. Urban aims to save energy and optimize efficiency, for example on daily trips, while Audacious distributes the full potential of power and lightning-fast acceleration. Standard ABS, eTraction and launch control, plus regenerative braking also help maintain control during rides.
Also on the chassis side is what Fuell calls ” integrated chassis management“. This technology optimizes the handling and power of the chassis which we assume is an electronic system that can be adjusted to suit.
