At the start of the second round on Saturday, the Hütteldorfer team deservedly won 4-0 (2-0) once morest SCR Altach, with which coach Zoran Barisic’s team also had a successful European Cup dress rehearsal. In the first Rapid home game of the season, the Barisic team boldly put themselves on the road to victory with a brace in the 29th and 34th minute. Jonas Auer increased on his 23rd birthday following a Kühn assist (59th) and captain Guido Burgstaller celebrated a little later (69th) in the twelfth home game in a row regarding a goal.
Barisic sent the same starting eleven into play as in the opening 1-1 at LASK when the green-whites only conceded the equalizer in the 95th minute following a strong performance. New signing Lukas Grgic, who arrived from Hajduk Split on Friday, was not yet in the squad. Altach coach Joachim Standfest changed his team in one position compared to the 0:2 once morest series champions Salzburg, Nosa Edokpolor was allowed to start instead of Leonardo Lukacevic.
In front of 15,400 spectators in the Allianz Stadium, a brisk game with many rapid chances developed in a light drizzle. The hosts let the ball circulate excellently in some cases and thus created excellent opportunities. But Marco Grüll (4th), Kühn (5th), Burgstaller (8th, 9th) and Auer (20th) failed from a sometimes promising position at the strong Altach goalkeeper Dejan Stojanovic. Five minutes later, Kühn scored following nibbling on Altach defender Lukas Gugganig and being lucky enough to bounce the ball into the net on a press ball with Stojanovic. Rapid dominated at will and had other good opportunities. After the change of sides, the picture hardly changed. The Barisic team pressed, but failed once more and once more at Stojanovic through Grüll (48′, 58′), Kühn (53′) and Nenad Cvetkovic (55′).
After an hour, the Altach defense was once more completely indisposed, Auer gifted himself completely free from close range following Kühn crossed. The goal of striker Burgstaller, who ice-coldly turned the ball into the left corner following a Stangl pass from Thorsten Schick and has scored in every home game in Hütteldorf since October 2022, was particularly exciting for the Rapid fans. The Standfest team might no longer keep up with the rapid tempo, only a shot by Lukas Fadinger at the inside bar caused a goal threat (71′). A goal in stoppage time was disallowed for offside.
